With a last-minute urge to head west, we decided we could swing a mule deer hunt last fall! We chose an area full of public land and easy tags - unfortunately, easy tags meant we'd be surrounded by others. But we didn't care! Getting to hunt some beautiful mountains was more than enough to excite us.

Even though rifle hunters were littered throughout the valleys, we found camp away from others and put our legs to work! After a few days of glassing and hiking, we honed in on this bachelor group heading up the mountain. We first saw them at dusk (and it was already too late to make a move) - but knowing where they were hanging out for the night, we got up early and prayed they were still there! And in those early morning hours, Caleb got it done. Not a huge buck by any means, but a special little DIY trip we'll remember for ages!
