As the saying goes, you truly have to "earn your turns" when in the backcountry! And honestly, it can be pretty addicting.

I've gone out with guide Iris Lazzareschi at Exxum for a couple years now. She's phenomenal! We warm up with a few laps to get situated with our splitboard touring setups (ski's for my friend), and practice ascents up and down a meadow to cover the basics. We've gone on bootpacks straight up the mountainside, and also toured for a while over flat lands just to get to the base of the mountains. Either way, it's a good amount of work, but the views are absolutely incredible - tons of fresh snow, and the most gorgeous glades to ski through.

The effort is always a little brutal for a Wisconsin flatlander like me, but the beauty and feel of riding untouched powder makes up for it. It's never too late to learn a new skill set!
